Meet the first artist of Maison Nefelibata: Megan Ashcroft, world traveler and Photographer
Hi! My name is Megan, I was born and raised in the Hudson Valley. I was lucky enough to grow up in a household that encouraged all sorts of self expression. I carry art with me throughout my life, in large part thanks to my grandfather, who was a dedicated art teacher.
I got into photography as a hobby in late high school. I never took a single class or was formally taught how to do it and never considered I would do it professionally. Over the past couple years I have been doing wedding videography. It’s crazy to think about the impact my job has on strangers on arguably the most special day of their lives. I love taking family photos, and photos of my own friends and family. There is beauty in capturing fleeting moments, and bittersweet nostalgia. I crave a vacation mostly so I can get photos of a place I have never been before. Ironically, my camera is how I live in the moment. Paying close attention to the details that are otherwise ignored. My favorite places I have been are the Swiss Alps and Dolomites, though not thoroughly enough. I hope to go back very soon.
Creatives are at risk today with the advancement of AI. Individuality, human connection, and creativity as a whole, are things we need to hold close, cherish, and fight for.
A mulit-hyphenate dreamer growing up in the digital age
Hi there, I am Martine Louis, the founder of Maison Nefelibata. I was born and raised in New York and have always found joy in gathering friends and family in intentional, but impactful ways. After a couple years as a corporate consultant, I learned firsthand what burnout can steal from us—and what slowing down can restore.
The House of Clouderwalkers is what Maison Nefelibata translates to, and it has evolved from different iterations, some which were present in this reality and some that lived in my daydreams. I crave to stay grounded in daily interactions that aren't online and I feel that there is a community of people who desire the same.
Technology has brought us a long way, It be remiss of me to not address fact that you are on a digital device reading this right now. Yet, today people feel lonelier than ever (especially Gen Z) because technology was never meant to replace human connection. The power of human connection goes far beyond a text or phone call, but is rooted in soft smiles, belly laughs, and tears from shedding one's old self.
I hope that Maison Nefelibata can be a safe space to grow community offline, while also sharing and expanding knowledge on the lasting benefits of human connection amid a technology revolution.
